SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 (dependant on experience) + bonus potential
Location: Toronto
Reports to: Accounting Manager
The Opportunity
Our client, a Canadian clothing manufacturer and distributor, is looking for a Senior Accountant. The senior accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. Specifically, production of the monthly consolidated financial statements, analysis of operating results and budgeting and forecasting activities. In addition, this position plays a key role in the monthly management and maintenance of raw material, work-in-progress and finished goods inventory.
Responsibilities
- Inventory management
- Performs monthly reconciliation of Inventory sub-ledger to the G/L. Oversees inventory accuracy working with the operations group to ensure adequate controls are in place
- Maintains continuity schedules
- Works with operations to develop realistic full year budgets for inventory levels and inventory turns which complement the fiscal year budget
- Maintains periodic cash requirements forecast for raw materials, CMT and FOB manufacturers
- Work under the direction of the Accounting Manager prepares financial Statement Consolidations
- Prepares accurate and timely monthly consolidation of European and Canadian operations
- Reconciliation of all intercompany accounts
- Prepares monthly elimination entries
- Ensures all financial reporting deadlines are met
- Performs analysis on monthly operating results as directed
- Resolves accounting discrepancies and irregularities
- Prepares monthly management reports and supports managers in the analysis of operating results
- Prepares and maintains periodic (weekly / monthly) forecasts – Balance Sheet / P&L and Cash flow
- Supporting role in the production of the annual company operating budget
- Analyzes and advises on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
- Provides other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must have prior experience in a manufacturing environment
- Must be experienced with multi-currency, consolidations and intercompany reconciliations
- Must have experience with standard costing
- Must have advanced excel skills including v-lookups and pivot tables
- At least 5 years progressive business experience, preferably with an accounting designation (CGA or CMA)
- Good understanding of Canadian GAAP for Private Enterprise
- Demonstrated continuous improvement accomplishments
- Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
- Strong analytic skills, proactive change management capabilities
