Payroll Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer bi-weekly payroll for approximately 300 employees. Pay type includes sales advisor commission, flat rate for technicians, hourly pay and salary employees.
- Responsible for remitting all payroll deductions and taxes (i.e. Source Deductions, Benefit Deductions, Employee Health Tax, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, etc).
- Administer company health plan: add and remove employees, calculate employer-employee share, reconcile and pay monthly invoice.
- Setup new employees: Assign employee number, input employee contact information, enter employees into payroll system, and maintain proper documentation for human resources.
- Administer employee termination: prepare and send Record of Employment, prepare final payroll, remove employee from Payroll System, and notify benefits provider of termination.
- Prepare employee T4 at year-end, calculating taxable car benefits.
- Prepare the annual return for Employee Health Tax and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
- Answer any payroll related questions for employees and government agencies.
- RRSP administration for employees (only a few employees in the plan).
QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES
- Minimum 3 years employment experience in a payroll/accounting/human resources role.
- Knowledge of Quebec law is an asset (there is an office located in Montreal)
- Post-secondary degree (accounting-related field a plus).
- Strong numeracy skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good time management skills and multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to work diligently under strict time constraints.
- Experience with payroll software.
- Automotive-related experience is an asset.
- Highly motivated, with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
