METALS & SETTLEMENTS ACCOUNTANT

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 + benefits

The Company
Our client is a publicly traded mining company with operations around the world. The Canadian division for this company has an office located in Toronto and is seeking a Metals & Settlements Accountant for a 12 month contract with potential to become full-time.
The Opportunity
Reporting to Superintendent, Commercial Accounting the Metals & Settlements Accountant is responsible for the accounting and associated administration of XXX Canada’s raw materials purchase contracts and contracts for the sale of secondary materials. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting the Accounts Payable, Receivable and Inventory reporting of the Business Unit.
Responsibilities
- The processing of raw material purchase contract settlements within the commercial system and recording to the general ledger for both Smelter and Refinery operations
- The processing of secondary material sales contract settlements within the commercial system and recording to the general ledger for both Smelter and Refinery operationsGeneral maintenance of the commercial system parameters including but not limited to the loading of month end actual and forward prices, month and year end closing activities, and communication with Information Systems teamThe processing and validation of the month end interface files from the commercial system to the general ledger for both volume and dollar transactionsRecording of monthly manual journal entries related to the purchase and sale contract data which is not captured by the commercial system including but not limited to inventory in transit, metal losses, inventoried operating costs
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations for all accounts related to purchase cost, inventory and accounts payable/receivable
Qualifications
- Has or is working towards an accounting designation (CMA, CGA) along with a university degree in business
- Minimum 2 to 5 years of relevant experience preferably in mining, metallurgy operations or heavy industry
- Experience with procurement and with maintaining effective relationships with external suppliers and team members across an organization
- Some travel within Canada (under 20%) may be required
- Advanced Excel sills (including vlookups, pivot tables and running of macros) would be considered an asset
- French language skills would be considered an asset.
