MANAGER, ACCOUNTING

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 + bonus potential up to 20%
Location: GTA
Reports to: Director, Financial Shared Services Center
The Company
Our client is one of the largest, most-dynamic food group companies in Canada. The company produces packaged food and beverages under several respected, well known brands.
The Opportunity
The Manager, Accounting is responsible for the management and control of the General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Customer Programs and Route Accounting functions that are administered out of the Corporate office as well as regional Payroll and Accounts Payable functions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and coaching at a management level for the General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Customer Programs and Route Accounting departments as well as the Payroll and Accounts Payable departments of one region.
- Manage staff directly and indirectly by hiring, reviewing performance and providing feedback, determining training and development needs, establishing goals and priorities, and providing work direction.
- Prepare annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts for departments of responsibility and review monthly spending variances, taking appropriate action when necessary.
- Review/Approve cash requirements forecast.
- Act as Cheque-Signing Officer, ensuring that all disbursements are properly supported and approved.
- Ensure internal control procedures and workflow procedures for all areas under responsibility are documented and kept current.
- Ensure compliance with established company policies, procedures, internal controls and standards. Evaluate and install new and revised workflow procedures and internal control procedures to improve department performance.
- Establish and maintain an active relationship with key plant customers (e.g. Cost Accountants, Plant Supervisors) and head office customers (e.g. Treasury, Corporate Controllership) to improve the quality of performance and to continuously look for opportunities to improve customer service level.
- Ensure standardized services are delivered effectively and efficiently by ensuring services are defined, staff is well equipped, and key performance indicators are met.
- Drive the implementation of projects within his area of responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Accounting Designation (CGA/CMA/CA) and University Degree, preferably in Business or Economics
- Minimum of 7 years business experience in related areas of responsibility at a management level
- Team player that brings a positive attitude and approach to a fast paced and ever-changing environment
- Good thinker, able to translate the understanding of the business into action plans
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, work independently, problem solve, set and achieve priorities and goals
- Strong leadership, coaching, analytical and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with standard office computer technology including advanced proficiency with Microsoft products such as MS Excel, as well as general understanding of SAP G/L, A/P, Fixed Assets and Financial Reporting applications
- Sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
