IFRS Disclosure Consultant (CONTRACT - 4mths)

Job Summary
The IFRS Disclosure Consultant works with each of the teams across Finance, Corporate Actuarial, Risk Management and taxation to develop IFRS compliant financial statement disclosures for the client
Responsibilities
- Play a key role in the coordination, preparation, analysis and reporting of the IFRS compliant financial statement disclosures
- Design financial statement disclosures, this includes maintaining a strong working knowledge of IFRS requirements surrounding accounting issues and their disclosure as well as working with other department/business unit staff who perform the accounting and/or manage related assets
- Create/update IFRS conversion documentation to reflect decisions made throughout the preparation of the financial statement disclosures
- Promptly raise issues to management and Financial Reporting
- Evaluate, recommend, and document practices and controls required to support the information needs of the financial statement disclosures
- Monitor and research industry developments related to IFRS conversion and changes to IFRS that will impact financial statement disclosures. Update IFRS conversion documentation to reflect findings
- Participate actively in the delivery of quarterly close process. As accountant and key member of the Finance department the incumbent will be assume quarter-end duties as needed and assigned to help ensure Finance meets it quarter end close objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and professional accounting designation with at least five years experience with a focus on accounting policy
- Past experience developing IFRS based disclosures for a public company
- Strong IFRS knowledge and practical life insurance related experience with IFRS
- Ability to work in a team environment and lead group meetings effectively
- Effective written and verbal communication and organization skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and proven ability to provide accurate and timely analysis
- Ability to remain flexible and adjust timelines and plans accordingly
- Accounting for multi-national organizations reporting on IFRS , considered an asset
