HEDGE FUND ACCOUNTANT
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $52,000 - $65,000 (dependant on experience)
Location: Downtown Toronto
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
The Opportunity
Due to increased growth within the company, a fund administration firm located in downtown Toronto is currently seeking a Hedge Fund Accountant who is professional and detail-oriented with relevant hedge fund accounting experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem solving skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills and will work well in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, complex, growth oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Reconcile all cash and securities positions on a daily basis to the custodian for each fund; Document and follow up with custodian for all outstanding issues to completion
- Administer and calculate the valuation of hedge funds trading in a variety of complex investment securities
- Set up of complex hedge funds, preparing valuations for Canadian and international hedge funds and assisting in financial statement preparation
- Responsible for reconciliations, reporting and preparations for monthly Net Asset Value Calculations (NAVs)
- Verify prices at month end, including listed and OTC securities with varying degrees of complexity
- Prepare dividend/ interest reconciliations, portfolio reconciliations and reconciliations of all shareholder transactions
- Calculate and accrue management and performance fees
- Analyze fund performance and calculate month to date and year to date returns
- Prepare and enter journal entries
- Interact with clients, investors, bank, brokers, auditors and senior management in a professional and polished manner
Qualifications
- Must have a minimum 4 years experience in hedge fund accounting
- Must have a thorough understanding of the theoretical and technical nature of hedge fund accounting and administration
- Experience with hedge funds dealing in a wide variety of complex investment securities
- Experience working at a hedge fund administrator or a hedge fund
- Professional designation (CA or CPA or CGA or CMA) is an asset
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Accounting (if not a designated accountant)
- A high degree of computer literacy (Excel, Bloomberg etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
