CONTROLLER
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 (dependant on experience) + bonus potential
Location: GTA
Reports to: Partner
The Opportunity
Our client, a small, but busy, high profile boutique law firm, located in Toronto is looking for a full time Controller to manage the full cycle accounting function at the firm (business services, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and all accounting/financial operations). The firm needs someone that can provide them with more than just book-keeping, they would like someone with an eye for financial planning and somebody who is ready to work closely with the Partners of the firm.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end closes.
- Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
- Assist in the daily banking requirements.
- Working on financial statements for 3 entities.
- Be hands on responsible for full cycle accounting, all entries, adjusting entries and reconciliations.
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable.
- Ensure the monthly and quarterly bank reconciliation activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinates compliance with Law Societies.
- Supports budget and forecasting activities.
- Monitors, analyzes and develops efficient financial procedures.
- Administers billing procedures.
- Prepares accurate client invoices and ensures accounts receivable is followed up on and collected.
Qualifications
- Must be a designated accountant (CGA/CMA)
- Must have previous experience (minimum 5 years) within a law firm environment (legal accounting) working directly for lawyers
- Previous experience in trust accounting (within a law firm) is an asset
- Must have previous experience working with PC LAW accounting system and strong working knowledge and experience with PC Law (or other law firm software)Must have experience with Consolidations (multi-currency preferable) and preparing consolidation journal entries and consolidated financial statementsAdvanced knowledge of legal accounting principles, practices and applications
