THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will work closely with the CFO and site/subsidiary finance teams. You will be responsible for accounting, preparing financial statements, MD&A and other public filings, including preparing financial packages for senior management and reviewing subsidiary accounting and reporting packages from site. You will be extensively involved in the planning & budgeting process and preparing internal reports for senior management and the board of directors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close through the effective management of the accounting cycle.
- Assist with preparation of draft MD&A and financial statements on a quarterly basis.
- Assist with development of the annual project and operating budgets, in a timely manner.
- Assist with development of the ERP software package for sites and head office incorporating, purchasing, AP, AR, committed costs, site maintenance, project management, periodic reporting and corporate reporting.
- Assist with the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: daily/weekly/monthly reporting, organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to government, tax and other regulatory agencies as required.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting of the organization and to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
- Coordinate the review and audit by independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, and all compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with Canadian GAAP/IFRS and all Federal and Provincial laws.
- Assist with tax compliance.
- Recommend and assist in implementing approved accounting policies and procedures.
- Liaison with finance team at site level, providing oversight, review and guidance on a daily basis.
- Select treasury functions (e.g. cash forecast and share capital reports, etc.)
- Train other finance and accounting staff on the use of reporting and accounting tools and raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.
QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES
- Candidate must be bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken
- Must have accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA)
- Experience in the mining sector and mine site accounting
- Experience with public company reporting, under IFRS and Canadian GAAP
- Completion of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
- Experience as Accounting Manager or from a CA firm (with focus on mining industry)
- 4+ years of financial reporting and accounting experience
- Comfortable working in a growth-oriented environment with the ability to implement underlying processes and structure
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Persistence and sense of urgency to ensure deadlines are met
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently
- Detail oriented – ability to identify irregularities or inconsistencies
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to understand underlying causes for variances in numbers
- IT savvy – ability to program reporting within the company’s ERP software
- Ability to research accounting issues and discuss alternatives and make recommendations
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable
