ACCOUNTING MANAGER
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 (dependant on experience) + bonus potential
Location: Mississauga
Reports to: CEO
The Opportunity
Our client, a private-equity owned company (Profit 100 list of Canada’s fastest growing companies), in the high-tech security industry, is looking for a hands-on Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for the entire accounting function. The Accounting Manager will assume responsibility for all financial operations including financial and management reporting, general ledger maintenance, budgeting and variance analysis, all aspects of accounting, reporting to investors, banking, cash management and for developing/implementing effective accounting procedures and financial controls.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations for the accounting department
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports – for Management, Investors, Bankers
- Prepare annual budget and financial forecasting models
- Responsible for the entire financial management and reporting process
- Preparation of all journal entries, maintaining accurate general ledger and preparing all account reconciliations
- “Hands on” responsibility for a/r, a/p, payroll and tax remittances
- Preparation of invoices and management of collections
- Develop strong accounting systems for consistent, reliable and accurate results
- Developing benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of departments
- Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget
- Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives (ie. coach an administrative assistant, segregation of duties, etc.)
- Work with the CEO to design effective reports that will assist with management of company
- Work closely with external accountants on all accounting/tax matters
- Preparation of all supporting documents and schedules to assist external accountants in preparing the T2
- Special projects (ie. cost saving initiatives, operational streamlining, process improvement, customer analysis, revenue analysis, margin analysis) and other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
This is an independent position at a private growing company. It is critical that the candidate be excited by the opportunity to work at a growing company. The candidate will need to thrive in a “hands on” position, as they will be solely responsible for the entire accounting department. The candidate must possess the following education, experience and attributes:
- Must have a degree in accounting and/or accounting designation (CGA or CMA)
- Must have a minimum of 4 years experience in a similar role – performing full cycle accounting, month end closing, general ledger maintenance, preparing financial statements, preparing reports for management analysis, etc.
- Must have experience working in Simply Accounting
- Must have advanced excel skills – ie. vlookups
- Prior experience with the implementation of a new accounting software and/or accounting software conversion is an asset
- Experience working with Ceridian PowerPay is an asset
- Candidate must be highly organized and detail oriented
- Candidate must be able to work Independently - ability to take ownership of all accounting and reporting duties
- Candidate must possess flexibility and adaptability and be ready to work in a growing environment with evolving systems and procedures
- Candidate must be a motivated, self-starter with excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Candidate must have the ability to work closely with the CEO to support him with all finance/accounting needs, reporting requirements, etc.
